Susetta Dunn Rockett
Susetta Dunn Rockett holds the second oboe/English horn Janeen Holmes Gilliam Chair with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. She is currently oboe faculty at Abilene Christian University, and McMurry University in Abilene, TX. Mrs. Rockett performs frequently throughout Texas and the United States. During the 21-22 season, she was invited to be the acting principal oboe with the Abilene Philharmonic, and is a regular member with the Leland Musical Arts Celebration Concert Series in Leland, MI. While in New England, she performed with the New England Philharmonic, the Gardner Chamber Orchestra, and has performed concerts at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, and Boston's Symphony Hall. She has been invited to perform and give masterclasses at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Tech University, Lynn Conservatory, Stephen F. Austin University, San Angelo State University, Central Michigan University. In addition to Abilene Christian and McMurry Universities, Mrs. Rockett has also held positions at Hardin-Simmons University where she was oboe faculty, taught courses in Music Business, and helped develop First-Year Freshman Seminar courses to increase student retention. Mrs. Rockett is a founding member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra in Dallas, TX, and is featured on two albums released by Naxos. She maintains a busy private teaching studio, reed making company, and is the Director of Education and Outreach for the Abilene Philharmonic where she has also held the position of Personnel Manager. She is the former director of the Heavenly Rest Chamber Music Concert Series at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest and performs frequently with her chamber ensemble, the Key City Winds. Mrs. Rockett received her degrees in Music Education and Performance from Texas Tech University, and a Master's in Oboe Performance with distinction from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Her principal teachers include Wayne Rapier and Amy Anderson, and she has studied with Mark Ackerman (former San Antonio Symphony), and Erin Hannigan (Dallas Symphony). As an English horn specialist, she has had the privilege of working with Louis Rosenblatt (former Philadelphia Orchestra) as well as David Matthews and Steven Lickman (current and former Dallas Symphony). Mrs. Rockett resides in Abilene, TX with her husband and two daughters and considers Lubbock her second home. She is so excited to spend a year working with the TTU oboe studio and having the opportunity to give back to her beloved alma mater.
