Susetta Dunn Rockett

Susetta Dunn Rockett is an accomplished oboist and English horn specialist, currently serving as the Associate Principal Oboe/English Horn Janeen Drew Holmes Chair with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, a position she has held since 2016. An active performer and educator, she freelances across Texas, the United States, and international performances.

In the fall of 2024, she was invited to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to perform with the Texas Chamber Winds for the Música no Museu – Rio Winds Festival. She is a member of several regional orchestras and served as Acting Principal Oboe with the Abilene Philharmonic during the 2021–22 season. She has also appeared as a featured performer in the Leland Musical Arts Celebration Concert Series in Leland, Michigan.

Previously based in Boston, Rockett performed with the New England Philharmonic and the Gardner Chamber Orchestra and was invited to Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall to perform a concert of works by composer Lewis Nielsen. She has given masterclasses and guest performances at numerous institutions, including the University of Texas at Arlington, Lynn Conservatory, Stephen F. Austin University, Angelo State University, and Central Michigan University.

A founding member of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra in Dallas, she is featured on two Naxos recordings. She also maintains a private teaching studio and is a highly sought-after reed maker.

Rockett earned degrees in Music Education and Performance from Texas Tech University and a Master’s in Oboe Performance with distinction from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. She studied under Wayne Rapier and Amy Anderson, with additional instruction from Mark Ackerman and Erin Hannigan. As an English horn specialist, she has had the privilege of working with Louis Rosenblatt, David Matthews, and Steven Lickman.

Currently, she is the Instructor of Oboe at Texas Tech University and serves on the faculties of Abilene Christian University and McMurry University in Abilene, TX.
