Who We Are
Music Humanities at Texas Tech serves students of all majors through inclusive and transformative educational experiences. We prepare students to lead vibrant, meaningful lives through the study of music and its impact on the world. By cultivating creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity, we empower students to flourish in all possible futures.
Our Program
- Provides a holistic and contemporary model for the study of sound as an intergral component of a well-rounded education
- Offers accessible and relevant educational experiences to all; creates opportunities for artistic expression and the development of critical listening skills for students of all majors
- Cultivates appreciation for the humanities within our school and within the larger university
- Demonstrates equal respect for popular and art traditions, regardless of geographic origin, and oral and written traditions, etc.
- Fosters curiosity, creativity, and self-expression in students of all majors and backgrounds
What Sets Us Apart
Course Offerings
Our courses explore a wide variety of musical topics from contemporary and global perspectives. We have courses on Taylor Swift, The Beatles, Women in Pop, Latin, Jazz, Rock, Global Sound, and more! Many of these courses (such as Music and Globalization, Survey of Popular Music, and History of Jazz) offer Creative Arts, Visual and Performing Arts,and Multicultural credits.
