Ali Abendschan is a third year Music Education major. She was in Scarlet Voce her first two years and is currently active in the University Choir. Ali is also involved in the Caprock Vocal Jazz ensemble where she serves as President. She was born and raised in Fort Worth and is a third generation Red Raider. Ali is very excited to be serving on the School of Music Student Advisory Committee and is dedicated to serve the choral students as best as she can. I am currently a first-year PhD student in Fine Arts Music, specializing in Musicology, at Texas Tech University, where I also have the privilege of serving as an Instructor of Music. I hold both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Makerere University, which provided a solid foundation for my scholarly pursuits. Driven by a deep passion for advancing music scholarship, I am particularly interested in the dynamic interplay between fusion music and technology. My research aims to illuminate these intersections, and I am dedicated to fostering an enriching educational environment through my teaching, leadership, and active contributions to the academic community.

Born and raised in Mexico, Ibis Laurel is a first-year student in the Master of Music inOrchestral Conducting programunder the tutelage of Lanfranco Marcelletti. She holds a bachelor's degree in music education as well asa Master's degreein choral conducting obtained as a Fulbright Foreign Scholar.Before coming to Texas Tech, Ibis Laurel taught choir and music from middle-school through college and worked as anEnglish/Spanishinterpreter. Her musical interests have led her to obtaintwo Mexican federal awardsthat allowed her to produce and record an album of colonial(baroque) music from the New Spain and, more recently, to foundChimæra Ensemble, a string groupthat performs once a year. Currently, she serves as alto scholar at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is honored and looking forward to serving on the School of Music Student Advisory Committee.

Valentina Cedillo Cuevas is a Mexican pianist from Mexico City and a first-year student in the Master of Music in Piano Performance program at Texas Tech University, where she studies under the guidance of Professor Daniel del Pino. She began her piano studies at the age of six and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), graduating with honors. Her musical training has included masterclasses with Stephen Hough, Anne-Marie McDermott, and Jorge Federico Osorio, among others. She has performed at important venues in Mexico and has received recognition in national and international competitions, including first place at the Concurso Latinoamericano Pianistas Jóvenes in Pasto, Colombia, and second place at the Danubia Talents International Music Competition. Her interests include collaborative music-making, Mexican piano repertoire, and educational concerts as a means of connecting music with the community. She is honored to be part of the Texas Tech University School of Music Student Advisory Council.

Emily Eligio is a second-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelors of Music in Music Education with a Spanish minorat Texas Tech University. She has performed with the Concert Band as the principal clarinetist, served as a member of the Visual Team for Goin’ Band, played an instrumental role in making the Caprock English Bagpipe Consort available to students, and was admitted to the Honors College through the San Francisco Scholars program.This year, Emily is serving as an Undergraduate Representative for the Music Humanities area. She is so excited to be a part of this council and to have another great year at Texas Tech!

Angel Gallegos is a fourth year Music Education & Music Performance major at Texas Tech University. He has performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble 1 and recently performed with the TTU Steel Band ‘Apocalypso Now’ in Montreal, Canada for the International Society for Music Educators conference. Angel’s accomplishments include the School of Music Undergraduate Excellence in Percussion. Angel is excited to be a part of the Student Advisory Committee this year, hoping to help serve as a prominent voice for the percussion studio. In his free time, he enjoys working out, running , journaling, and trying different coffee shops.

Teagan Henson was born and raised in Lubbock Texas and began her love for music when she was 5 years old in a piano class. She was first introduced to choir and the concept of teaching in her high school where she had joined varsity choir her sophomore year and became choir president by her senior year.  

Teagan studied at South Plains Community College for three years to create a firm foundation for music performance and education. She had performed in numerous plays, musicals, and ensembles during her time at SPC. Teagan has recently transferred to Texas Tech as a Senior to continue her bachelor's in music education and strengthen her music skills and knowledge. She is a current member in the fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) and is head of the social and volunteer committees. Teagan Henson is a Proud Red Raider.

Madeline Kath is in her second year at Texas Tech University pursing a degree in Commercial Music, with voice being her primary instrument, along with minoring in Advertising. She currently sings in the treble choir, Scarlet Voce, and in one of the Commercial Music combos. She has also previously been in Goin’ Band and played mellophone.  
 
Before starting her journey at Texas Tech University, Madeline was in multiple musical theatre productions, played piano for jazz band and percussion ensembles, sang in a church praise band, and played French Horn in concert bands.  Madeline is the current editor for Sigma Alpha Iota, a female music fraternity. She enjoys spending time with her fellow sisters and is devoted to serving the chapter. She is also currently working as a Student Assistant for University Student Housing at Horn/Knapp Hall. 
 
Madeline has really enjoyed her time so far in the School of Music. She is excited to serve on this committee and to represent the Commercial Music area as it is continuing to grow!

Seungwon Lee, originally from South Korea, is a second-year DMA student in Piano Pedagogy at Texas Tech University. She serves as a teaching assistant and collaborative pianist, working with students in various instrumental and vocal areas. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Ewha Womans University in South Korea and her Master of Music degree from Texas Tech University. 

Seungwon is excited to join the Student Advisory Committee and looks forward to connecting with fellow students, sharing ideas, and contributing to the School of Music community.

Patricia Lopez is a third-year undergraduate double majoring in cello performance and music education. She performs in many ensembles including the Lapis Quartet, Amarillo Symphony, Lubbock Symphony, Texas Tech Mariachi Los Matadores, and Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing across West Texas, Patricia is President of the American String Teachers Association Chapter here at Texas Tech.  She also teaches with Texas Tech String Project and serves as an ambassador for the Talkington Visual and Performing Arts College. Patricia is excited to get to work with students from all over the School of Music.

Francisco Magaña is currently a third-year Music Education student at Texas Tech University, studying violin under the tutelage of Professor Anne Chalex-Boyle and harp under Dr. Rachel Mazzucco. As a violinist, he has performed with many great mariachi groups and orchestras, including the Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Amarillo, Mariachi Los Matadores, Mariachi Reyes Coronado, and Mariachi Internacional Guadalajara.

A determined teacher, Francisco currently teaches with the Texas Tech University String Project and has previously taught in his own private studio. He has taught in both group settings and private lessons, teaching violin, cello, and harp. Francisco also serves as a STEP Learning Assistant in the area of music theory.

Pamela McIntosh is a certified music educator and string specialist with a strong passion for helping students develop both their musical abilities and confidence. She is a first-generation student born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Pamela earned her Bachelor of Music Education with a minor in Psychology from Texas Tech University and is now completing a Master of Music Education along with a Music Cognition Certificate. Outside of music, she is a potter and ceramic artist which allows her to explore and express her artistic side.   

Pamela is super excited to serve on the School of Music Student Advisory Committee and hopes to represent her string community well.

Sucely Ortiz is a first-year Music Education major at Texas Tech University. She has played bass clarinet for over five years and began playing clarinet about a year ago. At Texas Tech, she is a member of the Goin’ Band, Clarinet Choir, and Concert Band, as well as a Terry Scholar. Sucely is passionate about education and pedagogy, particularly the ways effective teaching can expand opportunities for students both in and beyond the music classroom. She is also interested in education policy and administration and is considering pursuing a minor in Public Administration.

Sujin Park is a second-year Doctor of Musical Arts student in Vocal Performance at Texas Tech University, where she studies with Dr. Brittany Fouché Strine and serves as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor. 

Originally from South Korea, she completed her undergraduate studies in Seoul before earning her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston.  As a soprano, she has performed in operas, recitals, and concerts in both South Korea and the United States.  

Sujin looks forward to listening to students in the voice area while also learning from the experiences of students across the School of Music.  She is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Student Advisory Council and contribute to the School of Music community.

Bernie Plascencia is a senior music education major. He was originally born in Southern California but moved to Austin Texas when he was very young. He went to high school in a suburb outside Austin named Hutto High School. He is a current member of Dr. Kevin Wass’ Tuba/Euphonium Studio. He is the president of the Tech Tuba Euphonium Association and participates with the concert ensembles during both fall and spring semesters. He is a current active member of the band service fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi, Alpha Omicron. He also serves as the chapter’s Ritual Chair on the executive board for Kappa Kappa Psi. He is also currently a probationary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Zeta Sigma. He is also the tuba player for the Prairie Dawgz brass quintet that will be performing at TMEA in February 2027. He is excited to serve on the student advisory council!

Elizabeth (Liz) Pompa is currently pursuing a master's degree in music composition and is a TA for the School of Music Media Production team. Liz earned her bachelor's degree in music technology - composition at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, P.A., near where she was raised. Her works focus on tone poems for band, or chamber settings. Beyond music, she is happy at home with her partner and four cats, painting, and learning new things.  

Liz is happy to serve on the Student Advisory Committee this year, as she is supportive and looking forward to being a voice for her peers and the School of Music.

Grant Potts is a 4th year Undergraduate Music education and Percussion Performance major at Texas Tech University. He has participated in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, Goin Band, TTU Percussion Ensemble 1, and TTU Steel Band program. He is also a proud educator at Frenship ISD, working with several students in private lessons and the marching band program. Grant also did 2 seasons of Drum Corps International with the groups, River City Rhythm, and The Academy. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Jessica, playing the piano, and playing Nintendo games. He is excited to share his perspective as a percussionist with the Student Advisory Committee.

Kate is a second-year master's student in music theory. She completed her undergraduate studies at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. Between her studies, she worked as a band director in Title I schools. During this time, she had the opportunity to serve as the head director and music department chair to her high school alma mater. She also partnered with nonprofit organizations in the West Palm Beach, FL area to provide under-resourced students with private instruction time from musicians in the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra and coordinate instrument donations for students with musical merit and need. Her current research focus is on aural skill acquisition, specifically, the relationship between spatial encoding and musical literacy.

Drew is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trumpet Performance at Texas Tech University, where he also serves as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor for the Trumpet Studio. He has performed with numerous ensembles at Texas Tech, including the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, TTU Opera, Trumpet Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, and the Graduate Brass Quintet.

Drew holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance and Music Education, as well as a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance and a Graduate Certificate in Baroque Trumpet, all from the University of Kentucky.

I am honored to represent the Graduate Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion areas on the Student Advisory Committee.

Lucas Rocha is a Brazilian double bassist based in the United States, balancing an active orchestral career with advanced jazz studies. He is pursuing a Master of Music in Jazz Performance at Texas Tech University, where he serves as Graduate Teaching Assistant and Principal Bass of the Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Combo 1, and was recognized as an Honor Student for the 2026–2027 academic year. 

He is a member of the bass section of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (Brazil) and the Orchestre Symphonique de Longueuil (Montreal). A graduate of UFRGS with Academic Honors, Lucas won the 2025 Young Soloist Competition at the Carazinho Music Festival and has appeared as soloist with the UFRGS Philharmonic. 

He has studied with Petru Iuga, Milton Masciadri, Alberto Bocini, and Julian Medina, and moves fluidly between classical and jazz.

Christopher Rodriguez, from Houston, Texas, is a first-year Music Education major at Texas Tech University with a focus on viola. Music is at the heart of his college experience - he performs with the Texas Tech University Symphony, sings as a baritone in the Matador Chorale, and shares his heritage through the university's mariachi program. Christopher also enjoys being part of the ASTA-TTU chapter, where he connects with friends and fellow musicians at meetings and socials.

Tania Rodriguez is a first-year Music Education student from Houston, Texas, focusing on flute. She is a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, where she plays piccolo. She is also involved in Texas Tech’s Concert Band, playing the flute. Tania has a passion for teaching and hopes to pursue a career as a music educator. She is interested in getting involved in her college community to connect with other students and help create a welcoming and engaging environment for her peers. She enjoys meeting new people, sharing ideas, and being involved in opportunities where she can make a positive impact.

A native of Bryant, Arkansas, Geoffrey is a first-year master's student in horn performance and a teaching assistant for the horn studio. He is a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the University Symphony Orchestra, and the graduate brass quintet at Texas Tech. He finished his Bachelor’s in horn performance and a graduate certificate from the University of Central Arkansas, where he was principal horn for the Wind Ensemble and performed principal for the Conway Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions. He has also participated in the Eastern Music Festival and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. He looks forward to representing his fellow students as he serves on the Student Advisory Council.

Sabrina Stovall is a sought-after international teaching artist who resides in Central Texas. She has worked with students ages 11-40, teaching private lessons, master classes, chamber coaching, and workshops. Her experience includes teaching at the University of the Incarnate Word, Schreiner University, Northwest Vista College, and Our Lady of the Lake University.

Orchestrally, Sabrina has served as principal bassoon for Symphony of the Hills in Kerrville, TX. Additional credits include engagements with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la UANL in Monterrey (Mexico), the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra (TX), Mid-Texas Symphony (TX), and Ballet Lubbock (TX).

In Chamber Music, Sabrina co-founded Adelante Winds, where she serves as executive Director in addition to being the ensemble’s bassoonist. Other engagements include playing with the Sankofa Collective (PA), and serving as the chamber winds coordinator and coach for the Summer Music in Tuscany music festival (Italy).

Sabrina holds a BM from Texas State University, an MM from The Ohio State University, and is currently completing a DMA at Texas Tech University.

Tris Swisher is an Instructor of Record in the Music Humanities division in the Fine Arts Doctoral Program at Texas Tech University. She has presented at regional and international conferences, most recently at the International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities. In addition to her academic work, she is a locally performing clarinetist, and is an active member of the Record Club.

Mr. Winston began his violin journey at the age of 10. In his youth, he was involved in many programs throughout the state of North Carolina. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received his BM in Violin Performance under Majorie Bagley. During his time at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he held many roles that included being a CVPA Student Ambassador, UNCG Gate City ASTA Chapter President, and USO Librarian. He is currently based in Lubbock, Texas, where he is studying under Annie Chalex Boyle at Texas Tech University.

At TTU, Mr. Winston also works as an Administrative Teaching Assistant while pursuing his MM in Violin Performance. When not playing violin, Mr. Winston enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and cooking.

Hello, my name is Justin Wooten. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Composition degree at the Texas Tech University School of Music as well as a Minor degree in Japanese Studies. I have a wide range of interests with my pursuit of music composition, from exploring unique sounds through electronic music to having interests in ethnomusicology to inspire my own works. 

I play the tenor trombone and have been playing since I was in the fifth grade, which was back in 2011. In 2017, I started to experiment with composing my own music as a hobby, mainly concentrating on electronic music. After attempting to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from 2019 to 2021, I decided to change my major to an Associate of Arts in Music Degree at San Jacinto Community College, as I realized that music was my ultimate calling. I found composing, performing, and studying music to be my passion. In 2024, I chose to transfer to Texas Tech University and my journey in music has been incredibly enjoyable and life-changing thus far.
