At the heart of the college are our students. The J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts (TCVPA) is committed to fostering excellence in all aspects of student scholarly, creative, and artistic endeavors.

This resource is intended for both undergraduate and graduate student populations as they complete their studies and seek opportunities for intellectual and professional growth.

TCVPA Students may submit one proposal each academic year. Funding will be awarded on a first come, first-serve basis, until available funds have been completely expended in each academic year.

All research areas are encouraged and will be considered. Some funding opportunities are specifically designated for research and projects related to arts in medicine and arts and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

TCVPA Student RCAA Application Requirements

  • Faculty Sponsor: Students must list a designated faculty sponsor in support of the request and provide their contact information on the application.
  • Budget: Students must submit an itemized budget. Applications missing the required budgetary information are considered incomplete.
  • Funding Requests Outside of Travel: For funding in support of creative activity or research needs outside of travel students will need to provide an itemized budget that lists all and any requests for equipment, participation costs, or other material and materials or support towards the project. Students will be expected to outline the activity, including its purpose, timeframe, and scope.  
    Support from School: All students are expected to request and list financial commitment granted from their home School on the application. This will need to be reported as part of the itemized budget. Students will be required to upload supporting documentation.
  • Graduate Students: Graduate students are expected to request funding from the Graduate School  as part of the overall request and must state the support received on the application and include in the itemized budget.
  • Note about International Travel: Separate from funding, all international travel must be approved by the Office of International Affairs prior to trip commencement. A pre-approval report must be submitted at least 30 days before departure.

Student RCAA awards are made with fellowship funding. Awardees will be expected to adhere to requirements pertaining to the fellowship such submitting a thank you letter. Funds are accessed via Student Business Accounts.

The Faculty Sponsor, Designated Administrator, and the School Business Manager will be made aware of every award. Students will be expected to follow School, College, and University policies related to travel and any planned absences from classes.

 

Travel Funding Allocations

2026-2027

Professional Development, i.e. conference attendance

Up to $500

Invited Presentation, i.e. performance, exhibit, cover, understudy – domestic

Up to $750

Invited Presentation, i.e. performance, exhibit, cover, understudy – international

Up to $1,000

Residencies, i.e. high-level peer reviewed acceptances – domestic/international

Up to $1,500

2026 – 2027 AWARD TIMELINE

To ensure your travel funding requests are reviewed and approved in time, please adhere to the following deadlines:

  • Labor Day Holiday (September 7, 2026)
  • Fall Midterms (October 12, 2026)
  • Last Day of Classes (December 2, 2026)
  • Beginning Spring 2027 Term (January 13, 2027)
  • Spring Vacation (March 12, 2027) 
     
    Submit applications in accordance with this schedule to adequately align with the planned travel timeframe 
     
    Domestic travel applications should be made to allow a notification of no less than 30 days ahead of planned travel. 
     
    International travel applications should be made to allow a notification of no less than 45 days of planned travel.
