Faculty Development Leave

  1. Nomination Deadline to the College: Speak with School Director. Submit complete Director approved proposals including Faculty Development Leave Application Form (Attachment A) and Faculty Development Leave Rating Form (Attachment B – reviewed and signed by Director/Chair) to Associate Dean, Ivy Walz by September 19, 2025.
  2. In accordance with OP.32.29 a TCVPA Faculty Development Leave Committee will serve in an advisory capacity to the dean.

President’s Academic Achievement Award – 1 submission per College

Nomination Submission to Ivy Walz: 1/15/2026

Dossier Preparation & Compilation Period: 1/15 - 01/28/2026

Provost Due Date is 1/30/2026

Criteria: Excellence in achievement across the teaching-research service missions of the university. Three years of faculty service, recognition by peers in one or more areas, evidence of productive scholarship, and demonstrated competence in the three areas.

Nominations: Nominated by the dean by letter, including vita and up to three support letters.

Procedure: Reviewed by Honors and Awards Council. Recommendations to Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President.

President’s Excellence in Teaching Award – 1 per College

Criteria: Excellence in teaching role.

Nominations: Nominated by the dean by letter summarizing teaching activities. 

Procedure: Deans recommend to the Office of the Provost.

Texas Tech Alumni Association New Faculty Award – 1 per College

Nomination Submission to Ivy Walz: 1/15/2026

Dossier Preparation & Compilation Period: 1/15-1/28/2026

Provost Due Date is 1/30/2026

Criteria: Maximum of four years total as a faculty member, based on student evaluations, innovative teaching activities, initiation of research/creative activities, and interaction with students.

Nominations: Nominated by the deans of the colleges in which the nominees hold a faculty appointment. 

Procedure: Deans recommend to Provost who notifies Alumni Association.

President’s Excellence in Faculty Peer Mentoring Award

Nominations due to Ivy Walz: 1/15/2026

Dossier Preparation & Compilation Period: 1/15-1/28/2026

Provost Due Date is 1/30/2026

Criteria:  To recognize faculty for exemplary and sustained activity in faculty mentorship at Texas Tech University as evidenced through both official and unofficial mentorship roles along with demonstrated success of mentees. Candidates show an ongoing commitment to continued education in mentorship. Tenured or continuing appointment faculty members with three years of documented mentorship service recognized by peers may be considered. 

Nominations: Nominated by faculty, chair or Dean.

Procedure:  A committee comprised of the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Success and engaged faculty and administrators from various TTU colleges and schools reviews, rates the nominations according to pre-determined criteria, and recommends the highest-ranking nominee as the award recipient to the Provost

President’s Excellence Academic Advising Award 

*Note this is an open application, but please communicate known applicants or nominees.

Provost Office Deadline – 2/01/26 

Criteria: Designed to recognize excellence in academic advising by faculty or staff. Evidence of advising excellence should be outlined in the award application statement, supporting letters of nomination, and in any other supplemental material that may be provided within the nomination packet. The letters of nomination should be dated in the current academic year, but additional supportive materials, if any, may be from past years. A letter of nomination is required from the individual or team's supervisor and by others, as specified in the attached nomination request forms. 

Nominations: Nominations are reviewed by a committee comprised of appointed members and former award winners. The review committee will refer to the rubrics provided in OP 10.16  Please note that, in the past, successful applications have addressed ways in which the advisor goes above and beyond to serve students and the Texas Tech community.

Nancy J. Bell Graduate Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award

Criteria: The Graduate School at Texas Tech University has created the Nancy J. Bell Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award to recognize those mentors who have gone above and beyond in mentoring graduate students.

Nominations: Graduate students and/or faculty can nominate Texas Tech University faculty mentors who they believe embody the spirit of a great mentor and have helped them on their educational journey.

Criteria: To recognize outstanding contributions to the commercialization of innovative work conducted by Texas Tech University faculty

Nominations: Tenured or tenure-track faculty members are nominated by deans

Procedure: Screening by Associate Deans for Research who recommend a recipient to Provost and OR&I. The Provost and OR&I shall forward this recommendation to the President.

President’s Excellence in Engaged Scholarship

Global Vision Awards 2026 Categories

  1. The Global Vision Lifetime Achievement Award: This award is bestowed upon an exceptional individual whose enduring commitment to advancing international scholarship and teaching has made profound contributions to Texas Tech's global presence over the course of many years. 

Required paperwork – full curriculum vitae & 2 nomination letters no longer than 2 pages each  

  1. The Global Engagement Award: honors a Texas Tech University individual or group that has substantially contributed to promoting international understanding and engagement within the broader Lubbock community. 

Required paperwork – 2 nomination letters no longer than 2 pages each and a separate detailed list of accomplishments in global engagement and outreach.

  1. The Donald R. Haragan Study Abroad Award: Acknowledges the creation and execution of study abroad programs that align with Texas Tech's dedication to offering exceptional international educational opportunities.

  1. Faculty International Scholarship Award: The award recognizes a faculty member for excellence and sustained international scholarship.

  1. Global Community Award: Recognizes Lubbock community individuals and/or groups who have significantly contributed to expanding international awareness, enhancing cultural diversity, and promoting global engagement in partnership with Texas Tech University.
