Dr. Ivy Walz is the Associate Dean for Faculty, Research, Creativity, and Outreach at the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech. Some of her main responsibilities include supporting faculty by facilitating research and engagement activities, assisting existing and developing community and outreach projects, support tenure and promotion processes, and collaborating on accreditation for each of the Schools of the College. She also supports students through coordination of undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships (GPTI/TA) and awards.
Her most recent role before joining Texas Tech University was Associate Dean for the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Ithaca College. Her leadership experience also includes interim roles and training such as the HERS Leadership Institute. She seeks to build bridges through servant leadership, teaching, and performing, fostering a learning centered environment that encompasses the development of skill, self-expression, and artistry.
Dr. Ivy Walz holds the BM ('98) in Music Education and Performance, MM ('02) in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, and the DMA ('14) in Voice Performance with a cognate in Vocal Pedagogy from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
Mezzo soprano Ivy Walz has been featured with the Spoleto Festival, Cincinnati Opera,
Syracuse Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Tri-Cities Opera. She is an active
soloist with orchestras and chamber music groups, featured recently with the Orchestra
of the Southern Finger Lakes, Akron Symphony, Symphoria, the Binghamton Philharmonic
and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. This season she will perform with the Eastern Connecticut
Symphony. As a recitalist she specializes in performing works by living and underrepresented
composers. Invited recital performances include the International Music by Women Festival,
SongFest, Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, Finger Lakes Chamber Ensemble, Cincinnati
Song Initiative, Denver Art Song Project, Civic Morning Musicals, and Middlebury Song
Fest.
Dr. Ivy Walz is a vocal educator dedicated to serving all learners curious about the
craft of singing and enjoys teaching classical and contemporary singing styles. She
incorporates integrative pedagogies and approaches towards development of techniques
that support longevity, artistry, joy, and wellbeing. She served on the voice faculties
at Ithaca College, the State University of New York at Cortland, and Cornell University.
Her students have gone on to top graduate programs, are currently teaching in k-12
and community arts programs and are thriving in meaningful careers. An active and
engaged clinician, she has been a guest clinician for Higher Voice Studio, TCO Teens,
College Audition Advantage, Affiliated Choruses of Ithaca, Denver Art Song Project
High School Competition and other schools, colleges and universities.
