Rawls Energy Commerce Students Discover Opportunities through Meet the Industry

Hailey Walker

Students are receiving internships and full-time offers from top companies in the energy industry.

Each fall semester, energy commerce students at the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business gather for Meet the Industry, a recruiting process for students pursuing careers in the energy industry. Hosted by the Rawls Career Management Center (CMC), the process is designed to allow sophomore and junior level students, who have been admitted into the Energy Commerce program, the opportunity to connect with energy companies in an effort to secure internships and full-time opportunities.

"Meet the Industry is the key recruiting event for energy commerce students," said Chelsea Baucum, program director for events and employer relations at the Rawls CMC.

This year, the Meet the Industry process began with 31 companies from across Texas and the United States traveling to campus to conduct information sessions August 21 – 23. More than 50 students rotated through company presentations to determine which companies they were most interested in. Following the information sessions, students applied for interview opportunities through Handshake, the online recruiting system at Rawls College, and employers scheduled interviews with top candidates.

Throughout the month of September, more than 365 on-campus interviews took place. Offers were extended to students beginning Sept. 9, and students have started accepting internships and full-time opportunities.

"In the last few years, the average student placement rate for summer internships has been above 95%," said Baucum. "We consistently hear from employers that Rawls College students are the most professional and prepared throughout their careers."
