Welcome back to school, Red Raiders! And for our new raiders, welcome to this exciting journey. This is a time in our lives where we begin to embark on new experiences and create endless memories as college students. However, in the midst of these ecstatic emotions, the stress from school begins to creep up on us and can affect our wellbeing. Whether it be eustress or distress, it is inevitable and it can become challenging for us to manage this stress while still keeping our mental health in check.

Here are a few tips and ideas to help maintain organization throughout the school year which, in return, can help ease some of the stress. They will also hopefully allow you to avoid procrastination and get the most out of your education.

  • Use a planner and/or calendar to keep track of your assignments and events. Our mind has a lot going on and can't always keep track of everything on its own. Planners and calendars allow us to effectively manage time, enhance productivity, and regulate stress levels.
  • Make a daily to-do list on busy days so that you hold yourself accountable. Creating these to-do lists will help improve your memory and aid you in prioritizing your tasks. This allows for more productivity and less stress.
  • Plan out your days the night before.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and eliminate clutter to improve mental stability and focus.
  • Develop a routine. Although routines can be seen as repetitive and boring, it allows you to get more done. Study your habits and workflow so that you can create a routine unique to you, and your lifestyle.
  • Avoid multitasking, research has shown that is truly impossible to focus on more than one thing at once because the brain will always be more attentive to one specific thing. Avoiding this will result in improved focus and will better your performance.
