Applications for the RISE Peer Education program open during the spring semester. This coveted position offers non-paid positions for first-time Peer Educators with opportunities for promotion and paid positions based on leadership and passion for the program.

Who are the RISE Peer Educators?

RISE Peer Educators are a passionate cohort of bright minds and inspiring leaders dedicated to promoting wellness and educating their peers. These selected students collaborate with RISE in outreach, programming, events, and workshop facilitation. They understand the art of balancing academics, work, and personal life and strive to empower Texas Tech students to lead fulfilling lives tailored to their individual needs.

What are the perks?

  • Peer Educators have the opportunity to collect hundreds of community service and volunteer hours in their first semesters with opportunities for promotion and paid positions based on leadership and passion for the program.
  • National Exposure: Those who have been Peer Eds for at least one year have the opportunity to present at a prestigious conference.
  • Comprehensive Training: Dive deep into topics such as mental health, wellbeing, substance use, sexual assault prevention, consent education, emotional safety, and more. Peer Educators provide a range of services to the TTU and Lubbock community such as leading presentations and workshops, writing blogs, developing tablings and programs, social media content, fundraising, and getting to interact with almost half the student population. Peer Educators are certified nationally by NASPA.
  • Career Development: Gain hands-on experience for your professional resume while working with professional staff who actively serve in their fields.
  • Impact and Engagement: Make a tangible difference, support peers, and shape Texas Tech's culture. Every experience gained is built to not just prepare Peer Educators for life at TTU but for their careers and life beyond graduation.
  • Dynamic Team Environment: Collaborate with student leaders from various majors and backgrounds. Peer Educators serve on a specific committee allowing a deeper dive into that topic area.

Requirements

  • Mandatory Training: Online training courses take place throughout the summer to equip students with the proper education and certifications. Peer Eds MUST attend the multi-day training session in mid-August.
  • Raider Welcome Week Participation: Engage in Welcome Week events in August such as Casino Night, RISE & Shine, and Yoga in the Park.
  • Monthly Commitment: Dedicate a minimum of 5 hours each week to equal approximately 20 hours per month to committee meetings, office hours, workshops, campus outreach, events, and innovative student engagement initiatives.
  • Academic Standard: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Conduct Expectations: Uphold good disciplinary standing at Texas Tech University.
