Lujan named Photojournalist of the Year

Jacob Lujan named Photojournalist of the Year

Jacob Lujan, managing editor and multimedia editor for The Daily Toreador, was recognized as the state’s top collegiate photographer Saturday at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association’s annual awards ceremony in San Marcos.

The Daily Toreador, led by editor-in-chief Marianna Souriall, also earned second place in the Best of Show (print edition, four-year colleges) competition, and an honorable mention in the organization’s Overall Excellence category.

Several other DT staffers received individual awards. Aynsley Larsen, news editor, captured a first-place win in Breaking News; Ty Kaplan, sports editor, received second in Sports News Story; and Nathan Kenison, puzzles editor, took second in the General Column competition.

Other individual winners included Kenison, third place, Interactive Graphic; multimedia staffer Makayla Perez, third place, Sports Photo; Lujan, honorable mention, Feature Photo Story; and Kenison, honorable mention, Critical Review.

Two students earned recognition for their work in on-site contests conducted at the conference. Sports writer Cory Whitman took second ion Sports Print Writing, while Audrey Boissonneault, The DT’s copy editor, took second in Copy Editing.
