Sarah Self-Walbrick
Biography
Self-Walbrick is a dynamic local multimedia journalist who has worked professionally in the Lubbock community for six years. She began her career as a business reporter at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. While there, she regularly took on in-depth and investigative stories that proved to be impactful. Self-Walbrick then helped start an award-winning newsroom at Texas Tech Public Media, Lubbock's NPR affiliate. With a small team, she has shared Lubbock and South Plains stories with statewide and national audiences. Self-Walbrick is passionate about covering hyperlocal topics that directly affect her audiences, like local government, social justice and healthcare. Self-Walbrick has taught as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries for six years. Her hands-on and caring teaching style has helped hundreds of students pursue successful careers in media. Self-Walbrick is a three-time graduate of the College of Media & Communication, earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Electronic Media & Communications and Journalism and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication. She is a first-generation college graduate and a Lubbock native.
