Laredo Health Department members selected for Leadership Institute Class

Four individuals from Laredo Health Department have been selected as distinguished members of the upcoming National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities Texas 2023 Leadership Institute Class, marking a significant milestone in their commitment to personal and professional growth.

The four include:

  • Laredo Public Health Director Dr. Richard A. Chamberlain, DrPH, MPH, CPHA, CPM, CHW, RS.
  • Laredo Health Assistant Director Erika Martinez, MBA, SHRM-SCP.
  • Health Educator Supervisor Christine Reyes, MBA, CHW.
  • Training Specialist Carla Alvarez, MS, CHWI.

The National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities offers a select group of future leaders from organizations across the United States and internationally the opportunity to come together with a renowned faculty of national experts on progressive support for people with disabilities.

Only five organizations comprised of four members each -- including the Director or CEO -- are selected for each class. The Institute provides an extensive program specific to leaders in the complex and changing field of intellectual/developmental disabilities services.

"We are deeply honored and excited to have been accepted into the Texas 2023 Leadership Institute," Chamberlain said. "This opportunity aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering positive change and inclusivity within the City of Laredo. It is a privilege to represent our community in a program that shares our dedication to improving the quality of life for individuals with Autism and Disabilities. We look forward to bringing back valuable insights and strategies from the Leadership Institute to further enhance the 'City of Laredo All Kinds of Minds Masterplan' and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve."

The intensive developmental course is designed to cultivate leadership skills, foster innovation and build a strong network of leaders who can drive positive change in their communities and organizations. Throughout the program, these selected Laredo Health representatives will also have the privilege of connecting with a diverse group of peers, mentors and alumni who will provide guidance and support as they embark on this transformative journey.
