Frequently Asked Questions

What does RRO look like for incoming Honors students?

  • Honors students who are attending either the 1-day or 2-day session are only required to check in with their major advisor, but we encourage them to visit the Honors College and connect with our advisors to ask questions and learn more about what Honors offers.

Do I have to take an Honors course in the fall?

  • Yes, regardless of major, all Honors students starting in the Fall are required to participate in the First-Year Experience (FYE) program which consists of two components: the First-Year Experience (FYE) course, and the Learning Community Group (LCG).
  • Honors students starting in the Spring or transferring may fulfill this requirement with any Honors course.

I'm getting registration errors when trying to register for my First-Year Experience class. Why?

  • Solution #1: When registering, be sure to enter the CRNs for both your First-Year Experience (FYE) course and your Learning Community Group (LCG) at the same time. You can find both CRNs in the FYE Course Booklet. Enter each CRN in a separate field under the "Enter CRNs" section of the registration portal before submitting your registration.
  • Solution #2: If you are entering the CRNs for both your FYE and LCG classes, check to make sure you have the correct CRNs. Please note that each FYE class is tied specifically to the LCG listed below it, so you cannotmix and match sections.
  • Solution #3: If you receive a “Prerequisite and Test Score” error, check the FYE Course Booklet to see whether the course you’re applying for has a prerequisite. If so, you must wait for any prerequisite credit to post to your TTU transcript or choose a different FYE. If the course has no prerequisite and you are still receiving the error, contact honors advising for assistance.

Can I take more than one Honors course in my first semester?

  • Yes, Honors students are able to take as many honors courses as they like each semester based on availability, major and/or Honors requirements, and prerequisites are met.

Am I required to meet with an Honors advisor during RRO?

  • No, students can register for Honors courses without meeting with an advisor. Students are encouraged to visit the Honors College during RRO so they can connect with our advising team who can address any Honors advising questions or concerns.

I heard there might be Honors sections of Chemistry and Calculus. Can I take these in my first semester?

  • Absolutely! CHEM 1307 (Principles of Chemistry I) and Math 1451, 1452, and 2450 (Calculus I, II, and III) are commonly offered each fall semester, but there’s a limited number of Honors sections and prerequisites may be required. If there are no seats available in the Honors sections, students should register for a non-Honors section and may consider joining the waitlist for an Honors section.
