Friday Lunch Discussions
The Honors College Friday Lunch Discussion is a weekly event in which Honors students, faculty, staff, and visitors gather to participate in a lively and civil discussion over a free lunch. Honors Alumni and community members are also invited to participate!
A guest facilitator is invited to introduce a debatable and relevant topic for the week, which can be anything from the importance of pop culture in academia, to sugar consumption and addiction, to the constitutionality of military actions. The diverse experiences and perspectives within the Honors College community make the Friday Lunch Discussion an eye-opening and enriching academic experience outside of a formal classroom setting. For many STEM majors, students are introduced to topics their coursework may not even consider – especially for humanities-driven topics or the arts.
All of our food for Friday Lunch Discussions come from local, Historically Underutilized Businesses! We're happy to feature local restaurants that Honors students continue to visit before football games, between study sessions, or even with their families when visiting Lubbock.

When are Lunch Discussions?
Our discussions are held most Fridays (with a few exceptions) during the fall and spring semesters from 12:00-1:00 pm in person.
There is no prior commitment or RSVP required to attend a lunch discussion, although for some lunch discussions we will be discussing literature that requires reading in advance. For those special lunch discussions, the first few students who RSVP will receive a copy of the work for free. Make sure to check your TTU email as an up-to-date description of the topic for any given week will be found in the Honors College The Weekly email. We also post to our Instagram about upcoming guests – make sure to follow us there!
