On Sunday February 18th , 2024 the TTU School of Music Composition Department and the Student Chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. hosted the annual “24 x 24 Workshop”, organized by Doctoral Composition Major/Graduate Part Time Instructor, David Box.

This annual event is held during the spring semester and is open to School of Music students and faculty participants. Participants can register in two categories as a composer and/or performer.

This unique workshop pairs composers and performers through a random drawing on Friday evening at 5pm. The collaborative teams then start the process of working toward the goal of performing a new composition at a concert on Sunday evening at 5:30p.

Composers use the first 24 hours to compose a new composition for their collaborative artists. During this time, composers practice their ability to work quickly to produce a professional quality composition and score for performance. Scores are due to the organizer and collaborative artists by 5:30p on Saturday. Over the next 24 hours the collaborative teams start individual practice and group rehearsal. Composers are encouraged to work directly with collaborative artists to achieve the highest level of performance quality. On Sunday evening, performers are given the opportunity to rehearse and complete a sound check in the performance venue. A full performance of each new composition at 5:30pm on Sunday completed the workshop.
