The President's Mental Wellness Committee was tasked in October 2021 to better identify areas of greatest need, and resources to address those needs, related to the wellness of Texas Tech University faculty and staff. You can find out more about some of the initiatives that are currently underway as part of the Institutional Effectiveness Grant.
Resources to Help Support Students
- Become certified in Mental Health First Aid or QPR. For more information about Mental Health First Aid and QPR, email RISE@ttu.edu.
- Use the attached resource guide, Teaching with Intention, to help you support student mental health and wellbeing.
- Request an interactive workshops or informative resource tables on the RISE website. Please note that all presentations, workshops, and tabling requests must be made at least two weeks in advance.
Be Well Challenge
Texas Tech University Faculty & Staff Be Well Challenge. Get fit, make healthy choices,
and compete with coworkers with this challenge app. Because everybody needs a little
healthy motivation! Track your weekly activity in the Texas Tech Be Well app to get
healthy, make smart choices, compete against your colleagues, and have fun!
Try out some of our standard workouts or do your own workout! the challenge will track the number of minutes that you work out. As long as you are breaking a sweat, submit those minutes! Powered by Texas Tech University Recreation.

With sustained support from the Offices of the President and Provost, the Committee became a formal Council for Staff & Faculty Wellbeing in September 2024. The Council for Staff & Faculty Wellbeing, working closely with the Office of Faculty Success, is pleased to announce a call for proposals for programming in support of fulltime staff and faculty professional wellbeing and success. Activities
Robert H. Ewalt Recreation and Aquatic Center serves the fitness needs of Texas Tech employees and their families through its Facilities and Aquatics, Fitness/Wellness, Outdoor Pursuits, and Special Events. Membership is available to faculty and staff, as well as their families, for a small monthly fee.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Employees who are experiencing personal problems are encouraged to seek the private and confidential services of the EAP whose staff of trained professionals are committed to providing quality counseling and assistance for individuals, couples, families, and work groups.
Faculty & Staff Clinic: The clinic is designed to serve the needs of faculty and staff who are sick at work and need an urgent care appointment on campus.
Family Therapy Clinic: One of the few accredited Couple, Marriage and Family Therapy (CMFT) doctoral programs in the nation, is located on campus and is a place of hope and healing for life's concerns.
Human Resources: Virtual and in-person training and development focused on developing employees.
Medical & Mental Health Virtual Visits: With medical virtual visits, you and your eligible dependents can consult a doctor online for your urgent health care needs. Employees who participate in HealthSelect are able to consult a licensed mental health professional any day of the week online.
Military & Veterans Programs (MVP) assists veterans and their families in achieving academic, personal and professional success.
MindSpa: With each new semester, many of us suffer the negative effects of stress with few opportunities for relief and rejuvenation. The Student Counseling Center MindSpa provides Texas Tech enrolled students, faculty, and staff a sanctuary in which to pamper and nurture mind, body, and spirit.
Psychology Clinic: Located on campus, and is a training and research center that provides psychotherapy and assessment services to the university, Lubbock and neighboring communities.
Therapy Assistance Online (TAO): TAO Self-Help is a platform of tools and information organized into self-help programs with engaging videos and exercises to help you learn a variety of cognitive-behavioral (CBT) and mindfulness-based skills. This resource is free for all TTU employees and can be used anytime, anywhere you have access to the web.
TTU Police Department helps prevent crime on campus and disseminate safety information. They provide 24-hour law enforcement and security services for Texas Tech and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
State & national Resources
Crisis Text Line: Text 741741 from anywhere in the U.S. and a live, trained crisis counselor will receive the text and respond to help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: A 24/7 network of local crisis centers that provide free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
StarCare Crisis Line: Staffed by a dedicated team who provide 24/7 assessment and appropriate interventions and resolutions to people suffering from a mental health crisis along with a 23-hour observation unit where people in crisis can be admitted and stabilize in a less restrictive environment.
Veterans Crisis Line is a free, anonymous and confidential resource that's available to anyone, even if you're not registered with Veterans Affairs (VA) or enrolled in VA health care.
Voice of Hope serves those affected by sexual assault through a 24-hour crisis hotline, 24-hour medical accompaniments, 24-hour sexual assault nurse examiner services, counseling, law enforcement accompaniment, case follow ups, judicial accompaniment and community education and prevention.
Women's Protective Services: Combats domestic violence throughout the South Plains by offering a 24-hour crisis hotline, shelter, food, transportation, therapy, children's programs, job readiness programs and more.
