John (Jack) Cooney is a Professor Emeritus in the Area of Finance. He joined the finance faculty at Texas Tech University in 2002. Jack has a PhD in finance (1992), JD (1982), and MBA (1982) from the University of Utah and a BS in Accounting (1979) from the University of Florida.

He was previously on the faculty at the University of Kentucky, Kansas State University, and Washington State University. His research interests are in IPOs, investment banking, and how information is impounded into stock prices.

His publications have appeared in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Banking and Finance.
