Prior to becoming an academic, David Lucus was a full stack developer with experience in both the Microsoft development stack and open-source development stacks. He also has experience in data warehousing and ETL data processing under multiple platforms and technologies. He strives to bring these experiences and techniques into his teaching through hands-on learning methodologies.

His focus for teaching involves classes related to programming, data modeling and cleaning, web development and data science focused courses. He also strives in his research to use and implement new technologies for investigation, which can inform and increase the learning of his students.
