Texas Tech University

Master of Fine Arts in Design

The Master of Fine Arts program with a specialization in Design prepares students either for work in the professional theatre or for faculty positions in the theatre arts.

Our program focuses on the well-rounded designer: after completing a core consisting of design classes in each area, students focus on the design area of their choosing, resulting in a program that is tailored to each student's talents and interests.  The program also includes a community outreach and engagement course as well as our summer WildWind Performance Lab, which concentrates on process work and devised pieces.  Unique to our program is the option to explore not just other areas within theatrical design, but many areas within the performing arts.

Combining the scholarship of the classroom with the practical of realized productions, each student in the MFA Design program is expected to have a major design role each semester, one of which ultimately will be his or her thesis project.

We encourage you to visit us!  A visit allows for the opportunity to meet our faculty and our current graduate students, attend a class or two, and perhaps see one of our productions.  This personal visit can be very beneficial in determining if Texas Tech University and the Department of Theatre & Dance will provide what you are looking for in a graduate program.

To arrange a department visit, contact our Graduate Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator.
