The Daily Toreador received a Silver Crown Award in the Hybrid News category from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at the organization’s annual convention in New York City.
The award marked the third straight year The Daily Toreador (DT) has been tapped to receive a Crown. The publication was awarded its first Gold Crown, the CSPAs top award, in 2023. Last year, The DT won a Silver Crown.
The Crown Awards are the “highest recognition given by the CSPA to a student print or digital medium for overall excellence,” according to the organizations website.
The award marked the second Silver Crown for editor-in-chief Marianna Souriall, who has held The DTs top position for two years.
The trio of Crowns highlights the close of The Daily Toreadors first century of service to the Texas Tech community. The publication published its inaugural edition two hours after Techs first football game on Oct. 3, 1925.
