Daily Toreador Silver wins Silver Crown Award

The Daily Toreador received a Silver Crown Award in the Hybrid News category from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at the organization’s annual convention in New York City.

The award marked the third straight year The Daily Toreador (DT) has been tapped to receive a Crown. The publication was awarded its first Gold Crown, the CSPA’s top award, in 2023. Last year, The DT won a Silver Crown.

The Crown Awards are the “highest recognition given by the CSPA to a student print or digital medium for overall excellence,” according to the organization’s website.

The award marked the second Silver Crown for editor-in-chief Marianna Souriall, who has held The DT’s top position for two years.

The trio of Crowns highlights the close of The Daily Toreador’s first century of service to the Texas Tech community. The publication published its inaugural edition two hours after Tech’s first football game on Oct. 3, 1925.
