Students are required to complete four courses (12 hours) which includes three required and one elective course as described below.

Required Courses (3 courses, may be taken in any order)

MCOM 5380 Strategic Communication in Sports
The course will focus on how communication activities happen in the sports industry. With an emphasis on public, media, and community relations, students investigate the vital role internal and external communication plays in sport organizations. 

MCOM 5382 Visual Communication in Sports
The course will focus on how sport organizations use sports statistics and other data to visually communicate for content creation, fan engagement, promotions, marketing, development and other communication efforts.

JOUR 5384 Multimedia Storytelling in Sports
The course will focus on print (bloggers, columnists), audio (radio/podcast), photo and video production for sports for organizational, live-event and marketing/fan engagement purposes for journalistic or entrepreneurial ventures, such as for name, image and likeness (NIL).

*Other courses, special topics, or an internship may be selected as approved by the CoMC Associate Dean for Graduate Studies or the Coordinator of CoMC Mass Communication and Strategic Communication & Innovation MA programs.

Students may select from among an array of existing courses, including those that may be housed in other departments, with approval from the Coordinator of CoMC Mass Communication and Strategic Communication & Innovation MA programs at Texas Tech.
