Hite is an associate professor of STEM education.
Associate Professor Rebecca Hite received the 2023 Outstanding Mentor Award from the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE). She accepted the award Saturday (Jan. 14) at the association's annual conference in Salt Lake City.
The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in contributing to the professional development of pre-service and in-service science teachers and teacher educators.
Hite is an associate professor of STEM education and the associate chair of curriculum and instruction. She is the founder and primary director of Texas Education Policy Fellowship Program (TX-EPFP), which welcomed its fourth cohort in August. A member of the program's inaugural cohort, Ramon Benavides, went on to become the 2022 Texas Teacher of the Year.
Hite also serves as associate director of professional development in the Center for Innovative Research in Leadership and Education (CIRCLE).
ASTE provides leadership and support for professionals involved in the education and development of teachers of science at all levels. The association promotes scholarship, collaboration and innovation in science teacher education, and seeks to advance policy and practice that contributes to more just and equitable outcomes for teachers of science.
