Dr. Merve Basdogan serves as an Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the College of Education, Texas Tech University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology, with a minor in Educational Psychology, from Indiana University (IU) in 2021. Her doctoral research took a critical post-phenomenological approach to examining open and distance education concepts, with a primary aim of advocating for sustainable terminology usage in the educational technology sphere.
In her postdoctoral role with the Learning Spaces and Mosaic Initiative at the University Information Technology Service (UITS) unit of Indiana University, Dr. Basdogan explored innovative technology-enhanced learning environments. These environments were designed to facilitate active, interactive, flexible, collaborative, and personalized learning experiences, both in formal and informal educational settings.
Prior to joining the faculty at TTU C&I, Dr. Basdogan contributed her expertise as the Principal Instructional Designer and Multimedia Production Specialist at IU School of Public Health, Office of Online Education. In this role, she dedicated herself to investigating methods of designing inclusive online courses.
Dr. Basdogan's current research focus encompasses a wide array of topics, including
instructional design, the development and application of technology-enhanced teaching
and learning environments, philosophy of technology, online active learning strategies,
critical AI literacy, digital pedagogy, engaging online course design, digital ethics,
and the issue of cyberbullying in adolescents. Notably, she has been awarded an AT&T
Foundation Grant for her project, "Fostering Digital Literacy in Rural Communities:
A University Student-led Technology Mentoring Program."
