Michael was born and raised in Portales, New Mexico (which is about ninety miles from Lubbock) where he attended Eastern New Mexico University and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Communication. While he is new to Texas Tech, he is not new to higher education, having worked a decade in advising, recruiting, and admissions with both undergraduate and graduate students. As a First-Generation traditional college student, Michael is passionate about helping students see the doors education can open. He finds joy in helping them achieve their goals and grow in confidence. He works mostly with Special Populations Advising (2+2 and VIP Cohorts) as well as Classroom to Career Advising (Externships and the Alumni Mentor Program) in the Honor’s College. Michael enjoys being active (if you see him walking around campus during lunchtime, do not hesitate to say hi!), watching sports, movies, traveling, being active in his church, and spending time with his friends and family. He is excited to call Lubbock his new home and to be a Red Raider!
