Martin W. Dies began his legal career in the law firm of Stephenson, Thompson & Dies, later becoming a partner. Since 1984, he has been a partner in the law firm of Dies & Hile, L.L.P. 
 
He specializes in construction and environmental-related class action litigation. He is a recognized expert in the field of asbestos property damage cost recovery, filing the first such case in the country in 1981. 
 
His work led to his appointment as Chair of the Trustee Advisory Committee for the National Gypsum Company Trust Facility, to the Board of Directors of the Austin Company of Cleveland, Ohio, and to the Property Damage Advisory Committee of the Celotex Asbestos Property Damage Trust Facility.
 
In recognition of his extraordinary career, Martin received the Texas Tech University Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999. He has also been a generous supporter of the Dean's Excellence Fund, the J. Hadley Edgar Professorship, and the Class of 1974 50th Anniversary Endowed Scholarship.
