In 2017, the Texas Association of Bank Counsel changed its name to the Southwest Association of Bank Counsel (SWABC) and expanded its membership to include lawyers from Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, and New Mexico specializing in representing financial institutions.

SWABC is an invaluable resource for its members, fostering networking opportunities among bank lawyers and facilitating the exchange of information on transactional techniques and legal developments.

The association provides its members exclusive access to The Texas Bank Lawyer, a monthly publication covering the Uniform Commercial Code, bankruptcy, consumer, and general banking issues. Texas Tech law students produce the publication.

Texas Tech Law has made substantial commitments to educate and inform SWABC members in banking law. In return, SWABC takes pride in awarding annual scholarships to students at Texas Tech Law.
