TTU School of Music was to have hosted this year’s TEXOMA NATS Regional Convention (November 2-7, 2020), but due to COVID-19, the conference was moved 100% online. TTU SoM continued to be the host.
TTU School of Music was to have hosted this year's TEXOMA NATS Regional Convention (November 2-7, 2020), but due to COVID-19, the conference was moved 100% online. TTU SoM continued to be host.
On Nov. 5, TTU broadcast a guest artist recital by Texas Tech Alumna Rebecca Nelsen, soprano and pianist Chanda VanderHart. On Nov. 6, TTU broadcast our production of the Magic Flute from February 2020.
The conference included 630 singers, 130 teachers and 110 pianists from Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. The competition is divided by level of singer and voice type. Texas Tech SOM had 10 semi-finalists and 5 finalists including the following:

Olivia Currier (finalist 3rd year treble voice) student of Rebecca Hays
Alaina Galt (4th place 3rd year Treble Voice) student of Rebecca Hays
Travis Hyman (semi-finalist third year tenor/baritone/bass voice) student of Rebecca Hays
Chloe McKay (semi-finalist fourth year treble voice) student of Alice Anne Light
Kristen Gillis (semi-finalist graduate treble voice) student of Rebecca Hays
Emma Steiner (semi-finalist graduate treble voice) student of Alice Anne Light
Emily Holter (5th place category graduate treble) student of Rebecca Hays
Spencer Ruwe (3rd place graduate tenor/baritone/bass voice) student of Alice Anne Light
Ran Wang (1st place graduate treble voice AND Grady Harlan* Award winner) student of Gregory Brookes
Finally, we're happy to announce that next year in November, the Texoma Conference will take place here at TTU!
*The Grady Harlan award is given to the most promising professional voice selected by a panel of judges from first place winners of the fourth year and graduate divisions.
