Composer, songwriter, pianist, recording artist, and arranger Amy Faris teaches songwriting in her position as Assistant Professor of Practice in Commercial Music. After earning a degree in Music Composition from Texas Tech, she went on to tour and record with numerous rock bands and to perform with such luminaries as Mac Davis, Joe Ely, and Terry Allen. Her music has been featured on radio, film, and television shows including 24 Frames, CLICK: Behind the Curtain, and Sound on Tap.
Amy has contributed keyboard and piano tracks to countless albums including Humble Folks and Homeland Insecurity by Flatland Cavalry, released two albums with touring rock bands (Throb by 100 Love Sonnets and the self-titled Meltdown Morning) and released two Christmas albums featuring her own arrangements and originals, Hot Chocolate Songs and Hot Chocolate for Two (with Hannah Jackson). As co-owner of Amusement Park Recording Studio in Lubbock since 2007, Amy has composed numerous string and horn arrangements for recording artists and has won several Addy awards for her jingles.
In 2013, Amy and her husband, guitarist/record producer Scott Faris, composed a new original soundtrack for the silent film Metropolis. The two-and-a-half-hour score entitled Metropolis Elektro features diverse genres for an ensemble of 24, and its sold-out live performances garnered critical acclaim. For this accomplishment, Amy was honored with the 2015 YWCA Woman of Excellence award in Arts and Culture.
Amy and Scott composed the soundtrack for the documentary Between Earth and Sky: Climate Change on the Last Frontier (2017), which was nominated for a Lonestar Emmy and was shown by the US State Department at climate change conferences worldwide.
Also in 2017, Amy and Scott composed a contemporary multi-media ballet, CLICK, and performed it live with Ballet Lubbock. Amy's piece entitled 5 was performed by Fort Worth Contemporary Ballet and featured in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts & Sciences.
Amy's current trio Scabaret (aka Three Bad Mamas and a Microphone) includes Amy, the group's writer, arranger, and pianist, vocalist and X-Factor finalist Hannah Jackson, and the world- renowned Dr. Kimberly Sparr on viola. Scabaret was featured on the first-ever all-female bill of the Lubbock Lights concert series in 2020. The trio's first LP Hothouse Flower was released by Octave Records in 2022.
