Kimbal Adams and his art of words on a page

Kimbal Adams is the newest Live/Work Artist -in-Residence at the Charles Adams Studio Project.

Kimbal Adams, a May graduate of the Studio Art BFA program specializing in painting, with a minor in Creative Media Industries, has been selected by the Charles Adams Studio Project as the latest Live-Work Artists in Residence for the coming year. Adams competed with nearly two dozen other applicants for one of the two appointments that were available.

Adams self-identifies as a painter, but his current work consists mostly of mixed media paintings and sculptures. In his work he enjoys finding the sculptural side of painting and the painterly side of sculpture.

Adams plans to use the time to expand his portfolio — focusing on the themes that his work has recently been exploring, including human experiences like memories, dreams, and anxieties, and relationships the body has with physical spaces. Says Adams, “Overall, I want to highlight the beauty in the ephemerality of living vessels, praise the ritual of thighs and knees and feet kissing cold bathroom floors, excavate the architectures that we walk, talk, eat, and sleep in, and worship the absurdity of life as a human body.” He will also seek out other future opportunities such as graduate programs.

Adams won the 3rd Place Prize with a painting selected into the 36th Annual Juried Art Student Exhibition in spring 2022 and received an Honorable Mention during the 37th Annual Juried Art Student Exhibition this past spring.
