The TTU School of Art is a place where intellectual, creative, and personal development are centered as key components of a comprehensive education. The MFA program aims to prepare students for a wide range of careers, engage them with the latest developments in contemporary art, and to participate as members of local and global art communities.

School of Art MFA Faculty facilitate the MFA students’ development of unique and cutting-edge ideas, encourage rigorous engagement in creative activity, and help them achieve of the highest level of skill and technique. Students are exposed to a variety of professional options that can include teaching, working in galleries, museums, and art non-profits, operating art making facilities, curating exhibitions, engaging in community-based projects, and sustaining an active studio practice.

In addition to a strong visiting artists/speakers program, several of the studio areas present biannual or triennial symposia, including the Texas Sculpture Symposium and Texas Metals Symposium. Ceramics and Printmaking faculty present national juried exhibitions such as Clay on the Wall and Beyond Printmaking every three years, pushing the boundaries of traditional media through contemporary discourse. Diverse dialogues in art are promoted by hosting curated exhibitions and visiting artists through the Landmark Arts Exhibitions & Speaker Programs.

The Ceramics, Metals and Sculpture areas provide state-of the-art facilities in the recently renovated 3D Art Annex building.

The 3D Annex is a 26,000 sq ft space that houses the Jewelry, Ceramics, and Sculpture concentrations.

January 15 for Fall semester with full financial consideration; applications will be accepted until April 1 with no guarantee of any financial assistance.

October 15 for Spring semester.

PORTFOLIO

A portfolio of 20 images of your work, in one pdf, with title, media, size and date under each image. Keep the entire pdf under 50 mb. If your portfolio contains any video material, please include a live link to a service that hosts the video.

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

The Master of Fine Arts degree (M.F.A.) is the recognized terminal degree in the practice of art. It is offered with a major in art and requires a minimum of 60 semester hours of graduate work. Specialization is possible in the areas of Ceramics, Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Ceramics, Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing, and Sculpture may be selected as a secondary concentration. In addition, Drawing and Transmedia may be used as studio electives.

Admission to the M.F.A. program normally presumes that students hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art. A graduate preview committee, composed of three graduate faculty members in the school, will examine the student's portfolio and hold a personal interview, if feasible, with each student who meets the minimum entrance requirements of the Graduate School. On the basis of these examinations, the preview committee will make recommendations concerning acceptance to the M.F.A. program and will determine and prescribe any leveling work to be completed before or after acceptance. Students applying for the Master of Fine Arts degree program do not need to submit scores for the Graduate Record Examination.
