Interim Director of the School of Art | Associate Professor, Painting
School Leadership
Ghislaine (Ghi) Fremaux holds her MFA from the Pennsylvania State University, conferred
in 2012. Her undergraduate studies began at Bard College at Simon's Rock in 2003 and
culminated in a BFA from Tufts University with SMFA, Boston, in 2007. Her large pastel
drawings investigate desire, consent, the bounds of the interior and exterior bodies,
and meanings and experiences of nudity within clothed society. In the service of these
interests, she has undertaken collaborative projects with professionals in medicine
and social science, examining endoscopic imagery and the practice of nudism among
senior citizens, respectively. She has exhibited nationally and abroad, with recent
shows juried and/or curated by Jessica Todd Smith, Leslie Moody Castro, Juana Williams,
Katie Pfohl, Omar Lopez-Chahoud, and Carter E. Foster. Fremaux often works in partnership
with artist, Lando Valdez. Their work together concerns the sensuality of grief, the
visual culture of medicine, the experience of surgical intervention, and love. They
live and work in Lubbock, TX.
