Art Education

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with a specialization in Art Education, leading toward teacher certification, prepares graduates for immersing young people and adults of all ages in the production of art and artifacts that are meaningful and facilitates creative problem-solving, interdisciplinary research and inquiry, and connections to self, others, and communities. The program emphasizes developing curricula models and culturally-responsive teaching strategies that promote inclusive learning and social responsibility, using contemporary theories and artists. Students engage in creative endeavors and scholarship, connect with local cultural resources, and develop networks for shared practices. Prior to student teaching, students participate in field experiences in public schools and community settings.

This program requires 55 semester hours of studio art and art history, 27 semester hours of professional education, and 41 semester hours of general requirements as stipulated by the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The minimum number of hours required for Art Education, leading to teacher certification, is a total of 123 credit hours. A minimum of 40 credit hours of junior- and senior-level courses are required for graduation. See the links below for requirements.

Making Today Collaborative Series

The Making Today Series, organized by TTU School of Art Faculty Drs. Rina Little (Art Education) and Lesley Wolff (Art History), is pleased to welcome internally-renowned artist Scherezade García as visiting guest artist-in-residence. García will collaborate with local artists, students, including the Tech Art History Society, and community members on an interdisciplinary and creative investigation of the city of Lubbock that will culminate in a printmaking workshop and collaborative mural installation.
