Study Abroad
study abroad
Study Abroad is not as complicated or expensive as you may think. And foreign study offers amazing opportunities for growth and new experiences that can beautifully compliment your studies here in Lubbock.
Planning Ahead is Key
Texas Tech has many exciting study abroad opportunities for art students in London,
Florence and Rome, Copenhagen among the destinations. What an amazing opportunity
to see first-hand the artworks you have studied in your textbooks, to experience the
cultures and see the landmarks that influenced your favorite artists. Scholarships
can be found through the Study Abroad office at TTU and through the individual programs.
In addition, your financial aid money can go toward expenses for foreign study.
Rachel Heimerman studied in London last summer (2009). She is glad she researched
ways to afford it.
I have always known about Studying Abroad, but never really considered it for me.
Just by happenstance I was in the right place at the right time during a Study Abroad
Fair. I was immediately hooked. There are so many different ways to pay for it, and
a lot of unused scholarships that people don't even apply for. It wasn't nearly as
expensive as I built it up in my head. I personally took out a very small loan, and
I do not regret it to the tiniest bit.
Robin Durrett was in Italy recently and she is excited about all the work she saw.
Getting to see a lot of great art work in Italy and getting to see my peers' work
in class gave me a new perspective on my own work. There are students from all over
the U.S. that go to study abroad, and I found it interesting to see their styles of
work.
When Gilbert Jones (art history) spent a year in Florence, he got to host tours of
the Duomo!
I better understand the complex relationships between art, its surroundings, and the viewer's relationship to the art object. Studying abroad made me a better student and continues to influence my research.
