Message from the Chair

Rob Peaslee

Hello, and thanks for stopping by to learn more about the Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries at Texas Tech!

The faculty, staff, and students of JCMI are a collaborative, driven, and supportive bunch. As Chair, it is my great fortune to work with such an inspiring collection of people, each of whom values great storytelling, a diverse set of perspectives, and our collective responsibility to inform, elevate, and entertain our audiences.

In JCMI, our students are challenged to begin their professional journeys immediately upon arrival at Texas Tech – no waiting around for your second or third (or fourth) year to start perfecting your craft! We provide multiple opportunities for students to get busy from Day 1 making stuff, making connections, and making productive mistakes in a robust collaborative environment. With our on-campus partnerships and ongoing commitment to “study away” field courses, study abroad, internships, and practicum experiences, JCMI leverages experiential education toward tangible, transformative student outcomes that make the JCMI experience so much more than just a degree.

Our alumni are doing amazing work across an enormous diversity of fields and industries, from film directors to prize-winning journalists, television producers to interactive media designers, sports marketing pros to Fortune 500 corporate executives. With graduates and supporters of our program placed in top-five media markets around the country and a substantively engaged National Advisory Board, JCMI maintains a network of professional support that is always growing and deepening to the direct benefit of our students. With certificates available in Sports Media, Entertainment Media, Motion Picture Production, and Game Design & Culture, JCMI offers students opportunities to focus their portfolios toward specific industries while still attaining the diverse, adaptable skillset demanded by today's media marketplace.

Please reach out to me or any of our faculty with questions about what we do and how we do it – we are happy to tell our story and help prospective students and families understand how JCMI could be right for them.

Wreck ‘em!
