School of Theatre & Dance Takes the Stage for Presidential Safety Award

Safety is not just limited to laboratory spaces as demonstrated by our recipient of the Presidential Departmental Excellence in Safety Award this year. The School of Theatre & Dance (SoTD) was recognized for outstanding efforts in safety improvement over the past years. 

The School of Theatre & Dance has always had a focus on safety in scholarly activities through mandatory safety training for each discipline within the School. SoTD exceeded previous safety standards through creation of a Facilities Manager position that helps to oversee safety within the School, sprung dance floor repair in the Creative Movement Studio, implementation of mobile elevated platform training, renovated shop spaces, and installation of audio video monitoring in performance and shop spaces. 

The images below show the drastic changes in the shop environment within the SoTD. Renovations focused on improved lighting, space management, supervisor oversight, and hazard mitigation.
