Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a relatively rare, unpredictable but potentially fatal event. The purpose of the Texas Tech University Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program is to enhance the safety of employees, students and visitors on the Texas Tech University campus by providing equipment and training to save the lives of persons experiencing heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke.
The program consists of assigning site coordinators in each area where an AED is present to perform monthly checks on the unit and to notify Environmental Health and Safety if a unit has been used. The AED program is maintained through a third-party data base system called Plustrac which will send monthly reminders to the site coordinators requiring a recorded check. Environmental Health and Safety will work with these coordinators on the maintenance and replacement of consumables.
