Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a relatively rare, unpredictable but potentially fatal event. The purpose of the Texas Tech University Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program is to enhance the safety of employees, students and visitors on the Texas Tech University campus by providing equipment and training to save the lives of persons experiencing heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke.
The program consists of assigning site coordinators in each area where an AED is present to perform monthly checks on the unit and to notify Environmental Health and Safety if a unit has been used. The AED program is maintained through a third-party data base system which sends monthly reminders to the site coordinators requiring a recorded inspection. EHS works with site coordinators to maintenance units and replace consumables. Site coordinators must watch the Zoll AED Use Training.
If your department or building is interested in purchasing a new AED please contact safety@ttu.edu to request information.
