Public Health

Texas Tech University is committed to protecting the public health by controlling the agents that cause disease. The components of the public health program include a food safety program which through agreement with the City of Lubbock, Texas Tech University Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) has the authority to inspect food service establishments on campus to be sure they meet applicable state regulations. In addition, EHS is tasked with inspecting public pools and spas to make sure they also meet with establish state regulations and national guidelines for cleanliness.

Additionally, the public health component of EHS is responsible for maintaining public drinking water standards for Texas Tech University facilities. These requirements are established through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and are derived from the Environmental Protection Agency for all Public Water Systems (PWS). Finally, the public health section oversees disease vector control for the campus including coordinating mosquito and wild bird management.
