Texas Tech University

Food Establishment & Permits

The state of Texas has established rules to safeguard public health and provide consumers food that is safe, unadulterated and honestly presented. These rules require permitting of retail food establishments and temporary food establishments that store, prepare, package, serve, and vend potentially hazardous food to consumers. These standards are based in part on the Food and Drug Administration Food Code and the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Animal Products regulations.

This program consists of annual EHS inspections of all Retail Food Establishments owned and operated by the university and registration and review of temporary (less than 14 days) or event-based food establishments. All establishments are required to uphold the Texas Department of State Health Services Retail Food Establishments guidelines.

The State of Texas Inspection Form  is used to survey all establishments whether the vendor is regularly operated by the university or is a temporary establishment.
