The Office of International Affairs (OIA) supports and facilitates the internationalization of Texas Tech University. It provides services related to international education, research, and cultural experience to the University and the broader community. In recognition of its efforts, Texas Tech is the proud recipient of two prestigious Paul Simon Awards for campus internationalization. This exhibit highlights two areas of OIA outreach: International Student Life and the Mandela Fellowship.

International Student Life:

The goal of the International Student Life (ISL) department at the Office of International Affairs is to help ease the transition of international students to Texas Tech and the Lubbock community. ISL begins each semester with an airport pickup and a student orientation. Throughout the year, the department plans cultural activities such as holiday celebrations, trips, festivals, and sporting events. It also provides educational opportunities such as health insurance and tax workshops. ISL's hope is that each international student achieves success at Texas Tech University and feels that the university is their home away from home.

Mandela Fellowship:

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a six-week academic and leadership training for the best and brightest young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa. The organization has hosted more than 5000 fellows since its inception in 2014. The Office of International Affairs is proud to be selected as an institutional partner for the fourth time and is looking forward to hosting 25 fellows this summer. The OIA works with academic units and community partners to offer opportunities for the fellows to engage with the university and the greater Lubbock community.
