The J. Hadley and Helen Edgar Professorship honors the highly esteemed professor who taught at Texas Tech Law for 21 years before retiring. This professorship was established through the generous bequest gift of J. Hadley and Helen Edgar, as well as substantial contributions from alumni Richard C. Hile '74, Martin W. Dies, III '74, and Wayne Reaud '74, along with Dallas attorney Frank Branson. The first Edgar Professor, Professor William Piatt, was appointed in 1995, and the current holder of the professorship is Professor Jarod Gonzalez.
