Louis A. Beecherl, Jr., the founder and trustee of the Bosque Foundation in Dallas, played a significant role in establishing the George W. McCleskey Professorship in Water Conservation at Texas Tech Law. A generous donation through the Bosque Foundation served as the lead gift for the professorship. George W. McCleskey, a respected attorney from Lubbock, was a close friend of Louis and inspired the creation of the professorship. McCleskey had made notable contributions to water rights and conservation, and the professorship is a tribute to his legacy.

Louis pursued his education at Tulane University and the University of Texas, earning Bachelor of Science degrees following his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was Chief Executive Officer at the Texas Oil & Gas Corporation and served as Chairman of the Texas Water Development Board for the Department of Water Resources. Governor William P. Clements appointed him to the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, where he later assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.
