David H. Segrest '70

 

David Segrest is regarded as a trusted advisor to both public and private businesses in a variety of industries across Texas, the U.S., and Canada. His legal practice focuses on corporations and Mergers and Acquisitions at the Foley Gardere firm in Dallas where he has served in numerous leadership positions, including as the firm's co-managing partner, helping open offices in Houston and Mexico City. David grew up in Bryan, where he was a successful athlete and high school valedictorian. David attended Texas Tech University on an academic and partial football scholarship. He then attended Texas Tech University School of Law as a member of the first graduating class. In law school, David served on the student senate and was a member of the first Texas Tech Law Review. He graduated from law school with honors in 1970 and earned the second highest score on the Texas Bar Exam. Following law school, David was the first Texas Tech law graduate to clerk for a federal appellate judge. David has remained an enthusiastic and committed supporter of Texas Tech throughout his life. He served as president of the Texas Tech Law School Foundation for 10 years, a member of the executive committee and board of directors of the Foundation, and on two dean search committees for the Law School. In recognition of an outstanding career, he received the Law School's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008, making him only the third Texas Tech law alumni to receive two distinguished awards from the Law School. In addition to David, six members of his family graduated from Texas Tech Law School. David is now a member of the Texas Tech University System Foundation Board.
