2018 MTNA/TMTA Winners from the TTU School of Music

Congratulations to all the students from the School of Music who represented TTU in the annual MTNA/TMTA State Competition!

The Music Teachers National Association/Texas Music Teachers Association (MTNA/TMTA) state competition was held October 27-28, 2018 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

The Texas Tech University School of Music was represented in the following competitions:

Young Artist Brass

The School of Music had seven competitors from the Tuba-Euphonium Studio!

  • Winner: Sean Riggen, tuba – 3rd year, Bachelor of Music degree with Teacher Certification, from Fort Worth, TX.
  • Alternate: Andrew Fowler, tuba – 2nd year, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and with Teacher Certification, from Allen, TX.
  • Honorable Mention: Marshall Rogers, tuba – 3rd year, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and with Teacher Certification, from Waco, TX.

Young Artist Woodwind

  • Honorable Mention: Claire Howard, flute – 2nd year, Master of Music degree, from Texarkana, TX.

Young Artist Performance

  • Winner: Brennan Lowrey, violin – junior, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Senior Woodwind

  • Honorable Mention: Ryan Montemayor, saxophone – freshman, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and with Teacher Certification, from San Antonio, TX.

Winds Chamber Music

  • Winner: Aruna Quartet
    • Will Pyle, soprano saxophone – senior, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and with Teacher Certification, from San Antonio, TX.
    • Tony Guzman, alto saxophone – 1st year, Master of Music degree, from Rio Grande, TX.
    • Ryan Hill, tenor saxophone – senior, Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, from Austin, TX.
    • Andrew Schoen, baritone saxophone – 1st year, Doctor of Musical Arts degree, from Charlotte, NC.

Congratulations to all of our winners and their associated faculty members: Prof. Annie Chalex Boyle (violin), Dr. Kevin Wass (tuba-euphonium), Dr. Lisa Garner Santa (flute), and Prof. David Dees (saxophone).
