Ramzi Aburedwan and the Dal’Ouna Ensemble

Ramzi Aburedwan, musical director, bouzouk and backing vocals, joins us with his ensemble, Dal’Ouna: Mona Miari, voice; Ziad Ben Youssef, oud and backing vocals; Michael Geyre, accordion and keyboard; Youssef Hbeisch, percussion.

Created in 2000 as a French/Arabic fusion ensemble, Dal’Ouna features original compositions, as well as a wide range of traditional Arab and Palestinian repertoire, both classical and folkloric. Dal’Ouna evokes the history of the Levant’s vast musical universe spanning the Mediterranean Orient from Syria to Iraq.

Our program will span three centuries, featuring Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, Johann Strauss Jr.’s sparkling Overture to Die Fledermaus, and the world premiere of a new work by Palestinian composer Ramzi Aburedwan, with Aburedwan and his ensemble as soloists.

Travel “Out of this World” with the Percussion Ensembles in the first half of the concert, featuring programmatic works on space and time travel. Then, we’ll return to Earth and detour to Brazil, featuring the thunderous rhythms of the Samba Ensemble, followed by a journey to the largest of the Caribbean islands, Trinidad, for a Calypso tune or two by the Steel Drum Band.
