CoMC Department Advertising & Brand Strategy

The Texas Tech University College of Media & Communication Department of Advertising has elected to change its name to better reflect the current curriculum of the program.

“We have decided to change our name from Advertising to Advertising & Brand Strategy because it more accurately depicts the content in our current curriculum,” said Shannon Bichard, Ph.D., associate professor and chairperson of the now-titled Department of Advertising & Brand Strategy.

“Today's brands have so many outlets for communication, and advertising alone just doesn't cover everything necessary for maintaining a successful brand,” Bichard continued. “We believe that our courses offer students a focused look into advertising methods and other strategies that brands can use to communicate about their products and services.”

While the major will still keep the moniker of Advertising, the departmental name change reflects that the program offers more than just advertising classes, giving students the option to explore the deeper aspects of advertising, like account services, brand management, and account planning and research.

The department will officially transition to the new name at the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.
