Academic safety at Texas Tech University is overseen by the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). Several sections within EHS work cohesively to ensure the university's teaching and research work areas are safe for the students and employees who learn and work in these areas.
The areas subject to academic safety include, but are not limited to, labs, studios, shops, field sites, and greenhouses. The University Lab Safety Manual provides the safety policies and work procedure guidance for these areas. Some areas are subject to more than one area of policy.
The Academic Safety Section is divided into the following programs:
- Chemical and Physical Safety
- Biological Safety
- Field Safety
- Radiation Safety
- Laser Safety
- Magnetic Field Safety
The Occupational Safety section oversees the shops and studios of Texas Tech along with most agricultural areas including the university's farms.
