Cranes and Hoists
Cranes move materials and products through facilities, on construction sites, and
other types of operations. Examples of cranes are gantry, overhead, crawler locomotive,
and derricks.
Safe use of a crane depends on several factors:
- Site evaluation.
- Operator training.
- Selection of the proper equipment for the job.
- Inspection of the crane.
- Good maintenance.
The Crane and Hoist program outlines training, testing, inspecting and maintenance requirements for use of cranes and hoists owned by Texas Tech University. The program requires only qualified and trained operators use cranes during educational and research activities.
