The John C. Akard Scholarship was established by the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar to honor John C. Akard, United States Bankruptcy Judge (retired), Lubbock Division of the Northern District of Texas. It is awarded to a second-year student who demonstrates an interest in commercial law and bankruptcy, and who is interested in participating in activities of the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar.
