Wayne Reaud and the Beaumont Foundation of America Scholarship created this scholarship to pay tribute to Judge W. Royal Furgeson, Jr., who served as a federal judge for 18 years in the Western and Northern Districts of Texas. Before his appointment, he practiced law for 24 years and served for two years in the U.S. Army. In January 2012, he became the founding Dean of the UNT Dallas College of Law and retired from the law school in 2018.

This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding law students at Texas Tech University.
