Jim Milam West Texas Legal Legend Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was established by the Beaumont Foundation of America to honor the legacy of James Milam, fondly known as "Mr. Jim."

Jim was a respected legal scholar and a humble lawyer. He earned his LL.B. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1935 and started working with the Lubbock firm that eventually became Crenshaw, Dupree & Milam. He played an essential role in turning the firm into a top Texas-based law firm, representing national and international corporations, local individuals, and businesses. During World War II, he served with the 310th Infantry Division in Europe and was wounded in action. He returned to work as a lawyer after being discharged as a captain in 1945. Jim secured the passage of the Texas Limited Liability Partnership Statute, widely used by attorneys and other professionals. He was known for his integrity, sound judgment, and love for West Texas and its people.

This scholarship is awarded annually to law students based on their academic success and commitment to service.
